Just came accross this interesting article from psychcentral.com. Here are the 9 myths: (make sure you check out the full aritcle for more indepth discusion)
- Bipolar disorder means I’m really “crazy.”
- Bipolar disorder is a medical disease, just like diabetes.
- Manic depression is different than bipolar disorder.
- I’ll have to be on medications for the rest of my life.
- I’m feeling better since taking my medications, which means I probably don’t need them any more, right?
- There’s no need for psychotherapy in bipolar disorder.
- Atypical antipsychotics are only for schizophrenia.
- Atypical antipsychotics have little to no side effects.

I just discovered that Winston Churchill had bipolar disorder. Apparently, he would referecne his condition by calling it "that black dog".
