9 Myths of Bipolar Disorder

Just came accross this interesting article from psychcentral.com.  Here are the 9 myths: (make sure you check out the full aritcle for more indepth discusion)

 

  1. Bipolar disorder means I’m really “crazy.”
  2. Bipolar disorder is a medical disease, just like diabetes.
  3. Manic depression is different than bipolar disorder.
  4. I’ll have to be on medications for the rest of my life.
  5. I’m feeling better since taking my medications, which means I probably don’t need them any more, right?
  6. There’s no need for psychotherapy in bipolar disorder.
  7. Atypical antipsychotics are only for schizophrenia.
  8. Atypical antipsychotics have little to no side effects.
  9. I may just have depression.

Dissemination to the CNS can occur within the first few weeks after skin infection. Like syphilis, Lyme disease may have a latency period of months to years before symptoms of late infection emerge.
